Puzzlers and Answers

Analog iProbes – In Loving Memory 2010

Welcome to the puzzles and the solutions page. These are puzzles are designed from a logic puzzle created by a dear friend, Professor Thomas O’Brien, who taught me to see beyond the obvious and into the possible. Instead of listing each set of answers after each new entry of iProbe puzzles, this page will be designated puzzles and solutions where all the previous puzzles and new puzzles will be listed and then the solutions.

If your not familiar with iProbes or Find-it as it was originally called back about 20+ years ago, this logic puzzle was created by Professor Thomas O’Brien to test and develop logic skills in children trough visualization. The original program was designed so that a object was sent into the grid and would exit somewhere else. By tapping a number 1-16 adjacent to a starting grid you could get clues to entering and exiting points (see diagram below) as well as, get a count of how many squares the object passed through. Inside the grid, hidden, lie any number of deflectors that divert the direction of path to the right. The more “Righties” in the grid, the more chances of multiple direction change.

It is from these basic beginnings that the puzzle was derived. Here, only three predetermined clues are given. The number of Righties, the three entrances and corresponding exit points. It is your task, based upon the clues, number of Righties to determine placement of the hidden deflectors. (see example illustration). I will supply the black grid, the clues to each puzzler. After the grid, I will give all the answers as a series of letters corresponding to boxes within the grid.

The game is played like this, I supply the game number, the number of Righties and the three clues of enter and exit points. You guess the location of the hidden righties based upon the clues provided. Some puzzles may have more than one solution, but that will be a rare occurrence.  As the phrase goes, “Shall we play a game?”

To avoid peeking, do not scroll down pass this point unless you wish to see the solutions. For teachers or parents, this is a great tool for helping children or yourselves develop sharper logic skills.
